Quality Control Technician

JOB SUMMARY

Provides quality control support to the Quality Assurance and Regulatory Compliance functions of a chemical manufacturing facility.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited, to the following:

• Performs basic lab tests (pH, S.G., viscosity, titrations) on raw materials and batches and fill line samples.
• Calculates batch adjustments as needed.
• Inspects packaging lines for conformance to specifications for fill weight, cap torque, labels and label placement, lot coding etc.
• Reviews and maintains production records and files.
• Inspects finished goods and received components for release.
• Investigates quality complaints and non-conformances.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree in a scientific discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Computer proficiency using Windows/Word/Excel/Outlook.  Knowledge of  quality management systems such as ISO-9001 and/or regulatory experience with FDA (medical device), EPA (pesticide registration), DOT and OSHA are a plus.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, edit, proofread and interpret documents such as Safety Data Sheets (SDS), Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), product labeling.  Must have proficiency in grammar and spelling. Must demonstrate strong attention to detail.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide and convert all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to calculate batch adjustments.  Ability to develop reports, graphs and summaries from spreadsheet software.

ORGANIZATIONAL/CLERICAL SKILLS

Ability to track multiple projects/tasks requiring input from other team members.  Excellent electronic and hard copy file organizational skills.

PROFESSIONAL/COMMUNCATION SKILLS

Provides assistance to other members of the organization as needed.  Interacts with customers and co-workers in a professional, courteous manner.  Maintains organized, professional workspace. Takes initiative to learn new tasks and solve problems.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to see, sit and talk or hear.  The employee frequently is required to use hands to type, handle, or feel, and to reach with hands and arms.  The employee is required to stand and walk the entire work day in a manufacturing plant and/or on outdoor terrain.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.  The temperature in the work environment is both controlled in office areas and ambient outdoor extremes in the manufacturing plant.

The employee must be able to work any shift and occasional overtime.  Current work hours are on one of two shifts 6am - 2:45pm or 2:30pm - 11:00pm.
