Filling Lead Operator
SUMMARY
The position is responsible for the safety, quality and efficient operation of packaging equipment on a production line manufacturing industrial and consumer products. The lead operator is responsible for a team of three or four operators and their combined output. The lead operator is expected to ensure the quality and conformity of filled and packaged products according to established standards. The lead operator will be required to monitor multiple machines for interruptions, clear machine jams and cycle the machines on/off safely, as needed, and manage other team members to do the same.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. These duties are not in any specific order.
- Lead by example in established safety procedures, work ethic and attendance standards.
- Manage the various line operators to establish a steady flow of product output from the line by troubleshooting and expediting supply issues for any of the machine operators (pallets, slipsheets, printed cases, caps, bottles, labels, etc.).
- Observes, tends to and provides training on the operation of various production machines including powered conveyor, filling machines, capping machines, induction sealers, coders, pack-off tables and taping machines. Follows all safety guidelines for the operation of powered production equipment.
- Assumes overall responsibility for the cleanliness of the entire line and each machine on the line (filler, capper, conveyor, turntable, labeler, coder, taper, etc.). Cleans and makes minor adjustments to these pieces of machinery while maintaining the cleanliness of the entire surrounding areas uring the course of the work shift.
- Inspects and removes defective products and packaging material. Ensures finished product leaving the line is produced according to acceptable quality standards (fill level, cap tightness, case sealing, package cleanliness, etc.). Further ensures that all finished products have proper coding, marking and labeling and are manufactured according to bill of material instructions.
- Replenishes packaging supplies, such as bottles, labels, caps, sleeves, tape and corrugated cases.
- Completes accurate record keeping of materials used and produced. Fills out necessary production paperwork and supplies this information to foremen, as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
A minimum of two years of work experience in a manufacturing or warehousing operation is preferred, but not required.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, company policy manuals and filling production tickets. Ability to write and complete production records and other departmental forms. Aptitude to speak effectively.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized solutions.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This position requires operation of production equipment in a manufacturing atmosphere. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, stoop, reach, bend and twist. The employee regularly is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms, including performing some work overhead. The employee regularly lifts and/or moves cased finished goods and pails weighing as much as 60 pounds. Product is stacked onto wooden pallets.

This is a manufacturing facility. The noise level in the work environment ranges from moderate to noisy and instances of operating mechanical equipment may require hearing protection. The temperature in the work environment can be extreme from 60 to 95 degrees, inside. The work areas may be wet. The work areas may include uneven surfaces.
