SUMMARY

The position is responsible for operating processing machinery used in the blending of chemical formulas.  The operator is expected to ensure the quality and conformity of blended liquid and powder products according to established standards.  The operator is required to follow batch recipe instructions.  These recipes or batch tickets require following the proper quantity addition of unique raw materials according to a specified order while documenting specific lot information. Additional mixing instructions detailed on the batch ticket may need to be followed.  Various pumps, scales, hoses and kettles are used in the blending of these products. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  Other duties may be assigned. These duties are not in any specific order.

  • Maintains the cleanliness of process equipment (pumps, kettles, tanks, hoses, valves etc.) according to established work instructions.
  • Observes and operates various processing equipment including electric-powered pumps, pneumatic pumps, scales, flow meters, batch controllers and material handling equipment.
  • Cleans and makes minor adjustments to the machinery and equipment.
  • Follows all safety guidelines for the operation of powered production equipment and protection against all chemical hazards. Wears appropriate provided personal protective equipment.
  • Inspects all raw materials used are labeled as conforming to internal quality standards.
  • Monitors the operation of appropriate machines and reports malfunctions to lead operator or foreman.
  • Packs filled containers into corrugated cases as required.
  • Monitors the production line, watching for problems such as accumulation, jams or mispackaged product.
  • Prepares returned unique chemical raw materials to their proper storage container and location.
  • Completes accurate record keeping of materials used and produced.
  • Adheres to department quality benchmarks, inventory guidelines, standard operating procedures and work instructions.
  • Maintains the cleanliness of surrounding areas and any equipment used during the course of the work shift.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

A minimum of two years of work experience in a manufacturing or warehousing operation is preferred, but not required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, company policy manuals and filling production tickets.  Ability to write and complete production records and other departmental forms.  Aptitude to speak effectively.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to measure liquid levels in tanks manually with the use of rulers and measuring tapes.  Must understand at most basic level how to utilize tare, gross and net weights with scales.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized solutions.

 This position requires operation of production equipment in a manufacturing atmosphere.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, stoop, reach, bend and twist.  The employee regularly is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms, including performing some work overhead.  The employee regularly lifts and/or moves cased finished goods and pails weighing as much as 60 pounds.  Ability to tilt and pivot 400+ pound chemical drums so that they may be moved onto or from pallets.  Product is stacked onto wooden pallets.

 This is a manufacturing facility.  The noise level in the work environment ranges from moderate to noisy and instances of operating mechanical equipment may require hearing protection.  The temperature in the work environment can be extreme from 55 to 95 degrees, inside.  The work areas may be wet.  The work areas may include uneven surfaces.
